Taken in Yosemite, a little over a week ago after 2 days of continuous rain. This particular morning was still drizzling, and the mist in the valley was playing its magic. This is Bridalveil falls shot from the tunnel view.
First let me say that it's a great capture. I'm going to fave it as-is.
The textures of the rocks and the trees and the fog are spectacular. Simply the scale of the scene is literally awesome.
I'm not a stickler for the "rule of thirds", but it has some merit for the balance of a scene. You got it perfect horizontally. The trees become their own point of interest, almost as if a separate image, and have a mysterious quality of their own.
The waterfall, however, has an inherent directional quality, and seems to move towards the left. In all seriousness, the only thing I could suggest is to move the camera a bit to the left (in other words, move the waterfall a bit to the right).
Despite that, I still give 5 stars for impact. Great work!
This is a lovely image. The choice of letting the water smooth while still being able to maintain the fog details is just wonderful. Unlike the other reviewer, though, I'm a bit bothered by the centered waterfall. I'm not usually a stickler for rules of thirds, but even a slight offset would have helped in my opinion. Mainly I think it's becuase the water is flowing to the left which gives it a bit of an unbalance to my eye.
I do love the way you can almost feel the fog moving through the trees and the sharp contrast on the front few really helps give a 3 dimensional effect. This would likely look wonderful in Black and White.
WOW. This looks like a powerful image of heaven. Thank you for sharing. You have a fantastic eye, and you have captured this beautifully. It looks absolutely mythic.
