Taken in the Patriarch grove in the White Mountains. These are bristlecone pine trees, the oldest single living organisms known. Some of these trees are older than 4000 years, and still going, even when they look already dead.

This is around 40 minutes exposure, during which I was just laying down, and contemplating the stars. Amazing feeling being there.

I hope you like it.

Reaching for the Stars by ~enunez Suggester writes: "This photo is a clear depiction of not only patience and technique but also presents us with a glimpse of a blissful moment - stars floating above your head as you lie under the warm sunset over the White mountains." Not only that but the amount of skill it takes to get a shot like this speaks volumes and speaks to the ability of this photographer, one look at his gallery and you will wonder why you weren't watching him sooner! i like how the stars are motion blurred, is that to show motion against the motionless trees, or is it the perspective of nature?

The motion of the stars is caused by the rotation of the Earth over the 40 minutes this picture was taken.

What's the streak in the sky on the left? Air plane? I think this is amazing anyway, amazing solitude. Do you have any tips for star trails?
