Ocean Touch by enunez Ocean Touch by enunez
Scouting through Garrapata State park, I found this location which offers a lot of potential. Waves crash, and create a lot of different accents in the image. Taken minutes before sunset, when the golden light paints the scene.

Hope you like it!

May I ask why ISO 800? You know I love this photo :)

ISO 800 to be able to capture the splash at the right speed. Usually I would have captured this at ISO 200 and maybe f/16, but when I took this photo the light was faint, I set the aperture to f/8 with ISO 800 to still keep the speed at about 1/2 second. If I had gone with a longer shutter speed the effect of the splashes would have been gone. A matter of taste for that.

With a different camera I would not have dare to try ISO 800, with the Nikon D700 I didn't care as the ISO performance is amazing. Clean images at even ISO 3200.

Ah I see, I don't know how ISO 800 would go on my Canon 40D, I must try it cause many times I've missed out on capturing splashes due to faint light and not increasing ISO. Thanks for the help :)

Nice. Great ss and light. Would say the left side could be cropped off leaving a square comp. This would bring all the focus in and be a bit stronger perhaps. thoughts?

Like it a lot! It's a tad oversharpened...can see slight white halo along ridgeline.

How was the opening?

Now that you mentioned it I can see the white halo, I am trying out a new "sharpening" technique and I am still working it out.

The opening was great, record attendance... about 600 people through the gallery in 3 hours. The economy may play a bit role in sales though, not many sales.

I love this coastline area, it is called Garrapata State Beach, between Carmel and Big Sur, in California. Thanks for your comment.

mmm very much so- the golden accents really do add to the dynamics and energy of the scene as if the spraying ocean wasn't enough. I love your choice to keep the power in the waves against such harsh rocks rather than let them mist and blur on a longer still exposure! :)

Great timing with the waves, I always try to get the waves as they crash, but I always miss them... Any tips you can give me? :D

Great job.

What are the small black things on the water are they birds or maybe seals poking their heads up?
