Scouting through Garrapata State park, I found this location which offers a lot of potential. Waves crash, and create a lot of different accents in the image. Taken minutes before sunset, when the golden light paints the scene.

Hope you like it!

May I ask why ISO 800? You know I love this photo :)

ISO 800 to be able to capture the splash at the right speed. Usually I would have captured this at ISO 200 and maybe f/16, but when I took this photo the light was faint, I set the aperture to f/8 with ISO 800 to still keep the speed at about 1/2 second. If I had gone with a longer shutter speed the effect of the splashes would have been gone. A matter of taste for that.

With a different camera I would not have dare to try ISO 800, with the Nikon D700 I didn't care as the ISO performance is amazing. Clean images at even ISO 3200.

Thanks for your comment

Ah I see, I don't know how ISO 800 would go on my Canon 40D, I must try it cause many times I've missed out on capturing splashes due to faint light and not increasing ISO. Thanks for the help :)

Nice. Great ss and light. Would say the left side could be cropped off leaving a square comp. This would bring all the focus in and be a bit stronger perhaps. thoughts?
